NPFL is back, Eyimba lost - MFM secure Victory

Giwa Fc of Jos

Catchup360 Sport reviews the league opening matches of the season for the Nigeria Premier League (NPFL) across the game venues in the country. Four away victories were recorded on Sunday as the 2016 NPFL season began with a lot of suprises. Kadiri Ikhana who won the NPFL League title with Enyimba last season began his coaching job with 3SC on a disastrous note as his team were stunned 1-2 at home by Lobi Starts of Markudi. New comers MFM Fc who are competing for the very first time in the Nigeria's top flight League also got their head off to a bright start as they recorded a 2-1 victory at Nasarawa United.
Below are the results and review of each match:
Kano Pillars 2 Enugu Rangers 1
Nigerian International, Gambo Mohammed was the saviour for Kano Pillars at the Sani Abacha Stadium as his 78th minute goal was enough to help Pillars record a 2-1 victory over Enugu Rangers.
The flying Antelopes got their consolation goal at the death through Prince Aggrey and all efforts by Rangers to levelled up proved abortive as Kano Pillars goalkeeper, Yusuf Mohammed was at his best.

3SC 0 Lobi Stars 1
Lobi Stars made life difficult for 3SC fans in Ibadan as they stunned the Oluyole Warriors in front of their faithful fans. Kingsley Idowu's goal in the 15th minute of the game was enough for Lobi Stars to record a superb away victory in Ibadan for the very first time in the club's history. 3SC coach. Kadiri Ikhana was in frustrating afterwards mood as he began his coaching job with Oluyole Warriors on a disappointing note.

Warri Wolves Fc Squad

Heartland 0 Warri Wolves 0
This tie between the Naze Millionaires and Warri Wolves football club of Delta refused to produce a single goal as it ended stalemate between the two sides.

Elkanemi Warriors 0 Wikki Tourists 1
It was not a surprise that Elkanemi Warriors lost to Wikki Tourists at home because the Warriors also lost their first game last season, and it was even on the last day that they escaped relegation. This tie has been tagged the northern derby which could go anyway, but it was Godwin Obaje’s 70th minute goal that helped the Tourists to a fine start of the season.

MFM-FC-SQUAD

Nasarawa United 1 MFM FC 2
Mountain of Fire Miracles and Ministries began their campaign in the Nigeria premier League on an impressive note as they recorded a 2-1 surprise victory over CAF Confederation Cup campaigners, Nasarawa United. Nobody tipped MFM FC to get a point in this tie, but against all odd, they stunned the Lafia-based team in front of their faithful home fans. Newman Musa opened scoring for MFM FC in the 18th minute, before Chukuma Emmanuel made it two for the visitors in the 33rd minute. Nasarawa United got their consolation goal in the 75th minute through Ifeanyi Nweke.

Giwa FC 0 IfeanyiUbah FC 1
Last season in this corresponding fixture, IfeanyiUbah FC were annihilated by Giwa FC, but this term around the Ubah Boys stunned Jos with a deserved victory. Seka Pascal second minute goal was all that handed IfeanyiUbah FC the win at the Rwang Pam Stadium, Jos.

Sunshine Stars 1 Akwa United 1
This tie produced a lot of finesse as both side really mesmerised themselves in Akure. It was Okiki Afolabi that opened the scoring for Sunshine Stars in the 12th minute, but their lead only lasted for 13th minute as Friday Ebong levelled up for the Promise Keepers.

Ikorodu United vs Abia Warrios in Action

Ikorodu United 1 Abia Warriors 1
The combination of Ndifreke Effiong and Chisom Chikatara was superb upfront for Abia Warriors, and it took them thirty minute before Effiong netted the opener for the Warriors. Lagos fans really helped Ikorodu United as their support masterminded the equaliser for United in the 53rd minute through Agbane Candy.

Rivers United 1 Enyimba 0
After changing their name from Dolphins, Rivers United began life in the Nigeria’s top flight with a slight victory over reigning NPFL champions, Enyimba. A superb strike in the 65th minute by Frederick Obamate was enough for Rivers United to get the maximum three points.

Plateau United 2 Niger Tornadoes 1
After spending five years in the National League, Plateau United began their campaign in the 2016 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) with a 2-1 victory over fellow returnees, Niger Tornadoes. Striker Charles Okafor netted the first goal for Plateau United in the 17th minute, and it was in the 64th minute that Tornadoes equalised through Kunle Issa. Niger Tornadoes fans were thinking they would get a draw in Jos, but Ibeh Johnson broke their heart as he fired in the winning goal for Plateau United in the 87th minute.
